The site for the Deauville Film Festival provides authentic video documents and a ready-made “actionnel” task.
The festival site has trailers for all the films in competition. These short, condensed.
The “mediathèque” section has videos of press conferences that could be used for authentic listening comprehension.
You would need to choose small snippets between the French translations. But these also provide a ready-made “actionnel” activity – have pupils translate the questions/answers, then play to see what the real interpreter said.)
The jury, led by Vincent Lindon, will judge 14 films. The line-up includes some authentic heroes from the world of cinema from Robert Redford and Woody Allen to Cate Blanchett. And the forces of nature play a large role – storms at sea, desert, hurricanes devastate lives that are also touched by war, poverty, cancer and autism. You can find the full list and trailers here.
Last year’s festival spotted Beasts of the Southern Wild, which went on to be a word-of-mouth hit. Quvenzhané Wallis, the young star of this beautiful film about a marginal community in Louisiana was even nominated for Best Actress Oscar – the youngest ever at age 9.
