Roy Lichtenstein

An exhibition about Roy Lichtenstein at the Pompidou Centre in Paris is a perfect opportunity to look at pop art and comic strips.

The Pompidou is hosting a major retrospective of American Pop Artist Roy Lichtenstein (that showed in London this spring at Tate Modern). Teenagers usually find Lichtenstein’s comic-book style appealing and a real or virtual visit offer lots of opportunities for working on art history (is it art?), the 60s or comic books. New Standpoints 57 has a cover, article and worksheet on the topic, for B1 level. And our classroom magazines feature Lichtenstein too. Both Easy Going and Speakeasy have articles, and creative writing competitions asking readers to imagine what is happening in one of Lichtenstein’s pictures.

Teaching Resources:
The Pompidou has a teaching guide in English.

The Tate exhibition guide is still online is a room-by-room description with some of the images.

The Lichtenstein Foundation has a good search feature for his works and influences.
