This year’s Deauville American Film Festival celebrates heroes – not perfect, unassailable heroes but ones who are a little down-at-heel and unsure of their own worth.
The jury, led by Vincent Lindon, will judge 14 films. The line-up includes some authentic heroes from the world of cinema from Robert Redford and Woody Allen to Cate Blanchett. And the forces of nature play a large role – storms at sea, desert, hurricanes devastate lives that are also touched by war, poverty, cancer and autism. You can find the full list and trailers here.
Last year’s festival spotted Beasts of the Southern Wild, which went on to be a word-of-mouth hit. Quvenzhané Wallis, the young star of this beautiful film about a marginal community in Louisiana was even nominated for Best Actress Oscar – the youngest ever at age 9.
